Become a Temple Donor
While the playa is one of the few places on Earth that eschews currency, it inevitably takes big money to build big art. To build something as large and as significant as the temple, we will need more than just prayers. We need your financial support. By funding Basura Sagrada you are ensuring the continued authentic tradition of communal, interactive and sacred space at Burning Man.
As a festival, Burning Man offers endless opportunities for individual creative expression and radical self-reliance, but it is through the presence of the temple where the collective identity of the Burning Man community emerges. For years, people have come to rely on the temple as a physical space of transcendence, where they can connect to their own sense of the metaphysical and provide meaningful offerings and prayers to the beyond. This year, Basura Sagrada will uphold that legacy.
We need over $100,000 to make Basura Sagrada a reality. The sum is large, but not unattainable. We have already received a generous art grant from Burning Man, providing us with necessary funds to move forward and a spiritual vote of confidence. Now, we come to you, generous members of the community, to provide the remaining contributions. The quicker we receive the necessary funds, the more readily we can build the temple of our dreams.
- $25,000 will buy the building materials required for the temple structure—steel, wood, rigging, scaffolding, hardware, power tools, etc.
- $20,000 keeps our 100+ person crew fed and watered during the playa build.
- $10,000 will transport the temple from our warehouse in Oakland to the playa.
- And if you really like the idea of burning money, $5,000 will cover all costs related to turning the temple to ash on the night of the burn.
Of course, every bit helps, so please give what you can. Every dollar received from our generous donors will be leveraged against the in-kind donations of reclaimed, recycled and salvaged materials. Because Basura Sagrada is a 501(c)3 organization, your donation is tax deductible. Below is a paypal link. We hope you will use it. If you are considering a gift over $500, however, please contact us directly at basurasagrada@gmail.com to discuss other options for donation.
